Convocation 2012

On the morning of Friday, June 16th, 2012, the Faculty of Education Spring Convocation was held in Alumni Hall.

Dr. Constance Backhouse received an honourary degree, and she gave a convocation speech that emphasized the importance of celebrating teachers and looking past early teaching challenges. Backhouse concluded her speech with a memorable quotation from the well-loved Dr. Seuss story, Oh the Places You’ll Go.

In the afternoon, 45 teachers and students were honoured at the Western Education Awards Ceremony, which was held in the Great Hall. Recipients received awards in graduate and preservice education, including three awards for “Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.” Dr. Vicki Schwean noted the exceptionally high caliber of students produced by the Faculty of Education this year. Many award donors, as well as faculty members who had nominated the award winners, were on hand to give out the awards to the recipients.
