Media and Information Services Moves to New Location

June 04, 2012

The Information and Media Services group has moved from the front office in the Faculty of Education building to Room 1138. This move anticipates the future opening of the Education and Technology Centre (ETC) later this year.

Media and Information Services (MIS), directed by Colin Couchman, offers a wide range of computer and web support to faculty, staff, students, and guests of the Faculty of Education. In partnership with MIS, the ETC will be open to offer a wide selection of educational technologies and computer programs to facilitate distance education course development, blended and on-campus instruction, web conferencing, live streaming, and video editing. New technologies will continue to be added to the Centre on a regular basis, allowing faculty members, graduate students, and staff to explore and innovate with them. Media and research resources geared toward flexible learning will also be available.

The opening of the ETC comes at an exciting time for our Faculty, as we start to realize our new professional graduate degree programs. The ETC will be a central area of support for our students and our instructors as we deliver these programs online.

The development of the ETC also comes during the implementation of Sakai, Western’s new learning management system. Western Education will work in partnership with the Instructional Technology Resource Centre (ITRC) to provide support to faculty who wish to integrate technology into their courses. Workshops on Sakai, as well as other instructional technologies, will be held regularly at the ETC. The Western community will begin to use Sakai in the Fall of 2012.

MIS staff are available from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Fridays. See the MIS webpage for services and contact information.
