Generations of Mustangs gather at Teacher Appreciation Football Game

October 19, 2026

Dean Donna Kotsopolos and Western Education students share their purple pride in front of the Faculty of Education.

On October 3, Western Education alumni, faculty, students and friends came together on a perfect fall day to cheer on the Western Mustangs as they faced rival and fellow old four member the Queen’s Gaels.

Our annual Teacher Appreciation Football Game and Tailgate, hosted by Dean Donna Kotsopoulos, is an opportunity to celebrate and show gratitude to our alumni for their service and impact.

In a match up between two teams who were both undefeated this season, the Mustangs battled hard until the final quarter but ultimately fell to the Gaels. Despite the 41-60 loss, guests were especially proud to cheer on Mustangs players, and teacher candidates Raeshawn Blake and Keeton Rout.

Before kickoff, attendees gathered at the Faculty of Education for a pre-game tailgate. The atmosphere was lively as over 100 guests enjoyed food truck faire, played spirited games of cornhole and caught up with old friends while making new connections.

This year’s gathering brought together a diverse crowd including current students and recent retirees who were attending their first alumni event. There were also multigenerational Mustangs in attendance with multiple Western Education alumni whose children who are now current teacher candidates.

Western Education extends our gratitude to Dražen Ivanišević, BA ‘10, owner of London Executive Sedan Service, for his generous sponsorship that made our tailgate festivities possible.

Thank you to all who joined us to show your purple pride, celebrate teachers and reconnect with the Western Education community.
