Faculty Seminar Series - Dr. Veronica Pacini-Ketchabaw
The Faculty of Education's seminar series is designed to promote and celebrate the research of faculty members. We are excited to feature Dr. Veronica Pacini-Ketchabaw presenting “Thinking Otherwise: Pedagogists and Feminist Praxis in Early Childhood Education".
This lecture brings together three lines of inquiry to consider the role of the pedagogist in early childhood education in Canada. Drawing on a working feminist manifesto, it calls for resisting the anti-intellectualism that continues to shape the field and for engaging pedagogical work as deeply political and ethical. It proposes decentering the child as a critical move, challenging developmental logics that privilege mastery and linearity, and instead opening space for more complex relational engagements. Finally, it attends to the situated work of pedagogists, tracing modes of response such as reading, interpreting, interrupting, and asking unconventional questions. These are offered not as competencies, but as gestures that orient pedagogical encounters toward invention. Taken together, the lecture argues for reimagining early childhood education as a relational commons, where pedagogists participate in composing conditions for thinking otherwise.
This event will be held online via Zoom (not a hybrid presentation).
