Dr. Dianne Yee holds a Standing Appointment as Assistant Professor within the Doctor of Education program at Western University. She is also the Field Academic Coordinator for the EdD in Educational Leadership. She completed her PhD at the University of Calgary, her MEd (with thesis) at the University of Saskatchewan, and her BEd at the University of Calgary. Her PhD focused on information and communication technology leadership, with course work and international research bringing together the disciplines of educational leadership and educational technology. At the post-secondary level, she has extensive background developing and teaching online courses for Western University and the University of Calgary at both the Master’s and Doctoral level, as well as teaching and providing academic committee service for the University of Regina and Royal Roads University. During her thirteen years teaching in the EdD program at Western, she has received numerous Graduate Excellence in Teaching Awards for her courses on change theory, policy studies and organizational governance, and theories of leadership and organizational development.

Dianne has teacher certification in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia, as well as principal leadership and superintendent leadership certification in Alberta. During her 30-year career at the K-12 level in Saskatchewan and Alberta, she taught from kindergarten to Grade 12, with a particular focus on inclusive programming and counselling in middle and high school levels. She spent 20 years as principal of five very different secondary schools in rural, small city, and large city locations. After working in a number of system leadership roles with a large urban board in Alberta (including System Principal for Secondary Schools, Director of Instructional Design and Assessment, and several Area Director positions), she moved into the Superintendent of School Improvement role. Also, she was the superintendent lead for the Board of Trustee’s Elder Advisory Council and responsible for working with the Alberta ministry regarding special education funding and inclusive education programming. 

Dianne’s recent co-authored book, entitled International perspectives on ethical educational leadership: Lessons from workplace cultures that have lost (and found) their way, provides vignettes of ethical leadership and healthy workplace cultures in Canada, the United States, Germany, and Finland--considering the various historical/cultural views of school leadership in those countries. She has also written book chapters, published journal articles, and provided professional learning on topics such as ethical educational leadership for sustainable change; ethical leadership and stewardship of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education; student agency, feedback literacy, and AI; using digital evidence to improve student learning and teacher practice; formative assessment in high school communities of practice; and leading knowledge-building inclusive learning environments.

Areas of research interest – leading knowledge-building inclusive learning environments; ethical leadership in education; and student agency, feedback literacy, and AI.
