In Memory of James (Harvey) Hassard

James (Harvey) Hassard, a former Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education, died on July 15 at the age of 93. Hassard retired from Western in 1982 after serving for 15 years at the Faculty.

James Hassard began his teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Ontario. He moved on to teach at Fisher Park High School and also as a Flight Lieutenant for 2416 Squadron in Ottawa. Hassard obtained a Ph.D. from Michigan State University before joining Western. He was well known in the London community as a member of the Kiwanis, his church and numerous volunteer organizations.

A funeral service was held for Harvey at Oakridge Presbyterian Church on July 21. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Harvey’s memory could consider contacting the Alzheimer Outreach Services of McCormick Home or Mount Hope Centre for Long Term Care.
