Jessica Jean Campbell Coulson Research Award Winner Presents in New York City

April 08, 2008

Hila Balilty, winner of this research award in 2007, was selected to present a research paper at the American Educational Research Association conference in New York City last month. She presented the results of her research on "Typically Developing Children's Play Interactions with Classmates with Special Needs". Although Hila is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at York University, she represented Western's Faculty of Education at the conference because she conducted her research here as part of her M.Ed, degree.

Hila was the first recipient of The Jessica Jean Campbell Coulson Research Award, established through Foundation Western by Mr. David Campbell (BA '38) in memory of his daughter, who was a dedicated teacher and learning disabilities specialist. The award will be presented again in 2008 to a full-time graduate student in the Faculty of Education whose research addresses an issue that is related to the education of students with exceptionalities.

The award has a cash value of $1,125. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2008. Application forms may be found at http://www.inclusiveeducationresearch.ca/. For more information, contact Dr. Jacqueline Specht, Director of the UWO Centre for Inclusive Education at jspecht@uwo.ca.
