Making D-LinKs - AILA Research Network (ReN)

Adapting mainstream learning environments to and for learners from migrant backgrounds: Making digital and linguistic knowledge links

Purpose

This multinational Research Network (ReN) falls under AILA’s “language teaching and learning” and “language in societies” strands. The purpose of this ReN is to develop and support adaptations to learning environments for adolescents and young adults from migrant backgrounds in mainstream classrooms in Canada, Denmark and Ireland by drawing on the knowledge base they developed autonomously in informal (out-of-school) settings to enhance their development of plurilingualism and (digital) literacy in formal learning settings.

Parallel empirical work will be conducted in Denmark and Canada from now until 2014, and presented at the next AILA conference in Australia in 2014.
