Family, friends and colleagues gathered to congratulate this year’s inductees into the Teachers’ Wall of Fame, Debbie Lukas and Joanne Taylor, in the Faculty Community Room on October 8. Both were humbled and honored by the award, thanking all of those who joined them in the celebration. Debbie Lukas, a retired high school English teacher from Medway High School was nominated by former student, Jenny Telfer Crum who said of her teacher, “I knew when she made everyone excited about Hamlet, she could teach anything.” Mrs. Lukas invited four of her former students to the podium. All four are now teachers.

Joanne Taylor, a kindergarten teacher at Holy Family School, spoke of the joy of working with young children and privilege of being part of the teaching profession. Her nominator, parent, Dianne Myers, tearfully praised and thanked Mrs. Taylor for the lifelong influence she has on her little charges.

Dean Julia O’Sullivan spoke of the importance of teachers in the lives of young people, praising the recipients as “the best of the best,” while Arlene Thompson who spoke on behalf of the London Public Library, co-sponsor of the program, said the Library was proud to be associated with teachers and teaching.
