Program Planning
Program planning is the process whereby students select (register for) their course and non-course program requirements for the Fall 2011, Winter 2012 and Summer 2012 terms and decide on the route of study they wish to follow (where applicable). It is an annual, mandatory process for all new and continuing students.
Program Planning is done on-line via the "Graduate Portal," an internally designed database.
*DEADLINE TO ENTER YOUR PROGRAM PLANNING CHOICES IS MONDAY JUNE 27, 2011 AT 9:00 AM.*

I cannot login to the Graduate Portal, what should I do?
Verify that you are using the correct login information. Your Graduate Portal login is not the same as your UWO email account login. Your Grad Portal login is your student number and your password is provided to you by the Graduate Programs & Research Officeprior via email along with the Program Planning instructions. Please note that your password must be typed exactly as it appears (it's case-sensitive). If you cannot locate your login or are having problems login in please contact the Faculty of Education Tech Support at edu.tech.support@uwo.ca or at 519-661-2111 ext. 84839.
How can I select a section of a course in the Graduate Portal?
You cannot select a section of a course in the Graduate Portal. Once Program Planning is completed, the Graduate Programs & Research Office assigns students to their appropriate sections based on their on-site or on-line program status. If you have a conflict and would like to be placed in a specific section, please contact your Graduate Assistant.
When I select "Update Program Planning" radio button and click on the "proceed" button nothing happens?
Your Program Planning Sheet opens in a new window; verify that you have disabled pop-up blockers. If you have disabled pop-up blockers but still cannot access the Program Planning page, please contact the Faculty of Education Tech Support at edu.tech.support@uwo.ca or at 519-661-2111 ext. 84839.
I am an on-site student can I register for an elective on-line course?
Students registered in on-site programs may register in elective on-line courses. Please note that if the course is oversubscribed the priority will be given to on-line students. You will be contacted via email by the Graduate Program & Research Office once Program Planning closes if this occurs, and we will ask you to select an alternate course.
What is the difference between 9683 & 9684 for Individual Proposal Preperation (IPP)?
IPP (Individual Proposal Preparation) is the process whereby students in M.Ed. Educational Studies programs develop their thesis proposals and ethical reviews (if applicable). It is not a course in the traditional sense, but a program milestone; the "9683" and "9684" designations are for record keeping purposes.
Only TVDSB Leadership students (regardless of start date) register for 9684 IPP. All other M.Ed. Educational Studies students who are completing their program via the thesis route of study register in 9683 IPP.
I have finished my course work - do I need to complete Program Planning?
Yes. Students need to be registered each and every term for course and non-course program requirements. If you have completed your course work, you register for other program requirements (e.g. thesis).
I am currently registered in Thesis but when I view my Program Planning Sheet it states that I have "no current course enrolment." Why?
Thesis students will not be able to see their Thesis selection for the current or past terms. It disappears from the Graduate Portal view (and never appears in the Student Centre) once we do the course upload each term. This is the process that formally registers you each term, and it is after this occurs that you can see course selections in the Student Centre (and not before). The course numbers we use (9590, 9790 and 9791) are internal designations that are used for record keeping purposes by the Graduate Programs & Research Office. Thesis is a milestone and it is not recognized like other courses. We still need to track thesis registration locally which is why we request that you register for it.
I am currently registered in 9683-IPP but when I view my Program Planning Sheet it states that I have "no current course enrolment". Why?
Students will not be able to see their 9683-IPP selection for the current or past terms on their Program Planning Sheet. It disappears from the Graduate Portal view (and never appears in the Student Centre) once we do the course upload each term. This is the process that formally registers you each term, and it is after this occurs that you can see course selections in the Student Centre (and not before). The 9683 course number is an internal designation that is used for record keeping purposes by the Graduate Programs & Research Office. IPP is a milestone and it is not recognized like other courses. We still need to track IPP registration locally which is why we request that you register for it.
Course Changes Outside of Program Planning - Add/Drop
Course changes outside of the Program Planning period take place during "Add/Drop" periods at the beginning of each term. All course changes must be approved by your Academic Advisor. Please contact your Advisor with your request and have him/her email the appropriate Graduate Assistance with approval:
Kristina Bradley (kbradl3@uwo.ca) - M.Ed. Counselling Psychology; M.Ed. Educational Studies - all programs
Tina Beynen (tbeynen@uwo.ca) - Ph.D.; Joint Ph.D.
Add/Drop Deadlines
Adds - students may request to add a course before the second class takes place. As a result, add deadlines are typically at the end of the first week of classes during the Fall and Winter terms. These dates are prorated for condensed summer sessions.
Drops - Drops up to 30 days from the start of a term will not appear on a student's transcript; after 30 days and up to 60 days from the start of the term dropped courses show as "WDN" (withdrawn) on a student's transcript; dropping a course after 60 days from the beginning of a term results in a "F" (fail). These timelines are prorated for condensed summer sessions.
Add/Drop dates are published on the monthly calendars on the "Timetables and Calendars" page; please contact your Graduate Assistant if you have any questions. Course and program policy information can also be found on the "Policies" page of our web site, and on the School of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies' web site.
