Articulation

Art Education at the Faculty of Education

Program Information

ARTiculation refers to the pedagogical foundation of art education courses at the Faculty of Education, whether the courses are located in the preservice, graduate, or continuing teacher education programs.

ARTiculation nurtures teacher-artists by placing curriculum and instruction at the core of art education. Studio activity infuses coursework in all three programs and is valued as a form of academic research.

ARTiculation respects and reflects premodernist, modernist, and postmodernist conceptions of art. Correspondingly, course readings and assignments strive to develop professional competencies in:

  • Media and Technique
  • Composition and Design
  • Self and Cultural Expression

ARTiculation envisages the teacher-artist as a catalyst for:

  • student engagement and exploration in art classrooms
  • professional leadership and development in school boards
  • cultural participation and advancement in Canadian society
