Song 1 - Probability possibility
Grades 2-3 children explored bar graph "hopping" races using a single die, to see which number will "win". Then they conjectured which sum (1-12) might win the hopping race when rolling two dice, and tested their conjectures. We also read the story Tortoise and Hare Hop to the Pond - The Rematch!, where Hare challenges Tortoise to a rematch. Hare discovers that it's good probability thinking - and not good luck or good hopping - that wins the race.
The sums of two dice, Are not equally likely
There are 6 ways to make 7
And only one way, to make 12
And no ways….. to make one
Hey there Mom, I really want a pet frog
I don’t think so, it belongs in the bog
Let’s decide Mom ,by rolling 2 dice
If the sum is 1 or 12, I’ll take your advice
But if the lonely 7, Is the sum
To the pet store, you’ll surely come
Hey there Dad, My frog and me
Want to go camping, would you agree?
I’d like to go camping, but I’m too busy
All this work, is making me dizzy
Let’s decide Dad, by rolling 2 dice
If the sum is 1 or 12 , I’ll take your advice
Hey Mom Can my friend , Adam come and play?
You have homework, it is good for you
Let’s decide Mom, by rolling 2 dice
If the sum is 1 or 12 , I’ll take your advice
The sums of two dice, Are not equally likely
There are 6 ways to make 7
And only one way, to make 12
And no ways….. to make one
