The Largest Area

A song based on the writing of seventh/eighth grade students. Students did the following:

• Second grade students read the story Wolf Gets Hurt
• They explored the math in the story (buidling a rectangular pen for the wolf)
• They shared their learning with the seventh/eighth grade class
• The seventh/eighth grade students read the story A New Home For Scruffy
• They explored the math in the story (buidling pen with the largest rectangular area with only 18 metres of fencing)
• Students drew pictures and wrote lyrics to describe what they learned
• Student lyrics was compiled to create two songs
  • The Largest Area
  • Circles are Best
• The seventh/eighth grade students shared their learning with the second grade students
• Then, all the students sang the songs together
