As an individual who may be interested in starting a Family Math Program, you may want to read through the steps that are involved in bringing Family Math into a community. Each of these steps is detailed further in the Coordinator Manuals. Part I of the Early Years Coordinator Manual and Part 1 of the Grades 2-5 Coordinator Manual provide comprehensive overviews of the information the Esso Family Math Team has learned about helping communities to develop Family Math Programs.

Steps Involved in Bringing Family Math into a Community

  • Establish a group of interested community members.

  • Obtain funding.

  • Find an appropriate site.

  • Choose appropriate dates and times.

  • Obtain materials.

  • Recruit Teaching Volunteers.

  • Provide Family Math Training.

  • Register families.

  • Organize meals.

  • Organize child care.

  • Deliver the program.

  • Evaluate the program.

  • Adapt the program to meet community needs.

It is important to note that a Family Math Coordinator can help you with this process, particularly in terms of Family Math Training. See the Early Years Coordinators list and the Grades 2-5 Coordinators list to determine who might be available in your region.
