Technological Studies Additional Basic- Technological Design Grades 9 & 10  EDUC 5685
Course Description

This course is designed for teachers of technological education who wish to obtain an additional basic qualification. Development of teaching skills relative to theoretical, practical, and curriculum concepts will be included in this course.

Admission Requirements

A. For applicants who hold TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION qualifications on their certificate of qualification:

A candidate must successfully demonstrate his or her competence based on an assessment of advanced knowledge and skill in the area of technological design by submitting to Continuing Teacher Education for consideration and approval evidence of a minimum of ONE of the following: i) Auto-cad certificate (or similar designation); ii) BCIN Building code identification number; iii) Certificate in Parametric solid modelling (Inventor or Solidworks) (or similar designation).

B. For applicants whose Certificate does NOT indicate initial qualifications in Technological Education one of the following must be submitted to and approved by Continuing Teacher Education:

a) five years of wage-earning experience, including business and/or industrial experience, where the candidate used skills and knowledge in the area of technological education selected;

b) at least two years of wage-earning experience and successful completion of a post-secondary education program acceptable to the College that includes at least six semesters of academic studies, where the experience and education used the candidates skills and knowledge in the area of technological education selected; OR

c) a combination of education (beyond the secondary school graduate diploma) and wage-earning experience which totals five years, at least two years of which must be wage-earning experience (including business or industrial experience), and no less than four months of which is continuous employment, where the candidate used skills and knowledge in the area of technological education selected.

NOTE: General Studies teachers who do not have a qualification in Technological Education on their Certificate of Qualification (CQ) will be required to submit their original documentation verifying 5 years of wage- earning experience, or education plus experience as outlined in the admission requirements PRIOR to registering for a Technological Education course. They will also be required to submit original documentation to the Ontario College of Teachers for evaluation before the qualification is added to their CQ.

NOTE: If you are already a certified Technological Education teacher, you will be required to submit evidence of demonstrated knowledge & skill in Technological Design to the Continuing Teacher Education Office prior to taking this course as outlined in A above.

B.Ed. students graduating in 2009 from an Ontario Faculty of Education may take courses prior to membership with OCT providing that they have met all the requirements to graduate and have registered with OCT. Students from Faculties other than Western must provide proof of successful completion of their B.Ed./Dip.Ed program. Students from Faculties outside of Ontario MUST be a member of the Ontario College of Teachers prior to the course start date.
