English as a Second Language Part 1  EDUC 5730
Course Description

This introductory course will include practical strategies for the teaching of English as a second language with introductory training in linguistics, and theories of second-language teaching and learning. Exploration of the socio-cultural adjustment faced by minority students adapting to functioning and participating in Canadian society will be examined.

Admission Requirements

A Certificate of Qualification, Interim Certificate of Qualification or Letter of Eligibility. (A hard copy is required for the Letter of Eligibility only. Verification of the other documents will be done online via the Public register of the Ontario College of Teachers.)

B.Ed. students graduating in 2009 from an Ontario Faculty of Education may take courses prior to membership with OCT providing that they have met all the requirements to graduate and have registered with OCT. Students from Faculties other than Western must provide proof of successful completion of their B.Ed./Dip.Ed program. Students from Faculties outside of Ontario MUST be a member of the Ontario College of Teachers prior to the course start date.
