Course Description

This course is designed for teachers of technological studies who wish to obtain an additional basic qualification. Development of teaching skills relative to theoretical, practical, and curriculum concepts will be included in this course.

Admission Requirements

A Certificate of Qualification, Interim Certificate of Qualification, or Letter of Eligibility indicating initial qualification at the Intermediate and Senior Divisions in Technological Education OR for applicants whose Certificate does not indicate "Intermediate-Senior in Technological Education", one of the following must be submitted to and approved by Continuing Teacher Education:

a) evidence of at least five years of wage-earning, business or industrial experience related to the subject for which qualification is sought;

b) a combination of post-secondary education and business or industrial experience, both of which are related to the area in which qualification is sought which totals five years, including at least two years of wage-earning experience, no less than sixteen months of which is continuous; OR

c) 3700 hours of wage-earning experience and successful completion of a post-secondary education program of at least 24 months, both of which are related to the subject for which qualification is sought.

NOTE: General Studies teachers who do not have a qualification in Technological Education on their Certificate of Qualification (CQ) will be required to submit their original documentation verifying 5 years of wage- earning experience, or education plus experience as outlined in the admission requirements PRIOR to registering for a Technological Education course. They will also be required to submit original documentation to the Ontario College of Teachers for evaluation before the qualification is added to their CQ.

B.Ed. students graduating in 2009 from an Ontario Faculty of Education may take courses prior to membership with OCT providing that they have met all the requirements to graduate and have registered with OCT. Students from Faculties other than Western must provide proof of successful completion of their B.Ed./Dip.Ed program. Students from Faculties outside of Ontario MUST be a member of the Ontario College of Teachers prior to the course start date.
