Teaching Students Who are Blind Part 1  EDUC 5703
Course Description

This introductory course will focus on the examination of issues related to the teaching of visually impaired students including the social, emotional and physical development. Special instructional strategies for visually impaired children will be included.

Admission Requirements

1. A Certificate of Qualification, Interim Certificate of Qualification or Letter of Eligibility. (It is not necessary to submit a hard copy as proof can be obtained from the Public Register of the Ontario College of Teachers.)

B.Ed. students graduating in 2009 from an Ontario Faculty of Education may take courses prior to membership with OCT providing that they have met all the requirements to graduate and have registered with OCT. Students from Faculties other than Western must provide proof of successful completion of their B.Ed./Dip.Ed program. Students from Faculties outside of Ontario MUST be a member of the Ontario College of Teachers prior to the course start date.

2. Candidates must provide proof of successful completion of Grade Two Literary Braille Code (Mohawk College Level 4) before the course can be recommended to the College of Teachers for certification. CNIB, Mohawk College and The Hadley School for the Blind offer courses in Braille by distance education.
