Course Description

This course will include the following topics: current issues in language development; language across the curriculum; issues and research in literacy instruction; current issues in literature for young readers; leadership skills in planning and implementing literacy programs in elementary and secondary schools.

Admission Requirements

1. A Certificate of Qualification indicating successful completion of Part 2; (It is not necessary to submit a hard copy as proof can be obtained from the Public Register of the Ontario College of Teachers.)

2. Evidence of at least two years (388 days) of successful teaching experience, of which at least one year (194 days) is in Ontario in the subject area, as certified by an appropriate supervisory officer (superintendent, not principal). NOTE: Where candidates are teaching the subject, identified below, in an integrated format, supervisory officers may consider experience where a teacher can demonstrate that significant program and instruction modifications were explicitly planned, implemented and reviewed in the teacher's class: Art, Dramatic Arts, ESL, FSL, Guidance & Career Education, Integration of Information & Computer Technology in Instruction, Music, Reading, Special Education (OCT Memorandum; July 14, 2004).Teaching experience MUST BE COMPLETED prior to the first day of the course.
