Susan Rodger
INTERESTS: My interests stem from my experiences as a special education/literacy teacher in a variety of communities and settings. These interests include: language and literacy teaching, learning, and curricula (particularly in regard to young children and other persons who are minoritized), multimodal literacy, art as literacy, intergenerational learning, early childhood curricula, teacher professional learning. These interests are all firmly rooted in critical theory with its goal of emancipation.

How to Submit Your Research Grant/Contract Applications

In addition to Funding Agency instructions, researchers should follow Western's procedures as set by Research Development and Services.

General Instructions for:



Principal Investigators / Applicants

Step 1.

Ensure that you are eligible to hold a research account at Western


Step 2.

Obtain the following approval signatures on the grant application in the order listed:

  • Associate Dean Research (Faculty Signature)
  • Research Development & Services (Institutional Signature)

Note: All grant and contract applications must be reviewed by Research Development & Services (Support Services Building, room 5150) prior to their submission to the funding agency.


Step 3.

Complete a ROLA proposal for your grant application. ROLA (Research On-Line Administration) is an internal electronic system, which is used by faculty to obtain Faculty of Education approval of grant applications and to maintain research profiles.

Note: If the grant competition that you are applying to is not listed on the ROLA funding opportunities page, contact rolahelp@uwo.ca for assistance.


Step 4.

Provide one copy of your grant application to the Faculty of Education Research Office and to Research Development & Services.

Note: Submit your Research Grant/Contract Application, bearing the Associate Dean's signature to Research Development & Services (RD&S) (Support Services Building, room 5150) at least 3 days prior to the agency's deadline unless RD&S has set an alternative internal deadline.


Co-Investigators / Co-Applicants

If you are a co-applicant/co-investigator on a research grant/contract application and the principal investigator/ applicant is based at an academic institution other than Western, you are required to:

If the grant/contract application requires a signature from the co-applicant’s organization/Institution, this signature must be obtained from Research Development & Services, not from the Associate Dean.


Step 3.
