A) Study Routes
Part-time students can take up to 2 courses per term with permission of the Graduate Chair which would allow them to finish course work earlier. In this program, they would be allowed only one course in the first term and could take up to 2 courses in the subsequent terms. However, they must be registered as a part-time student for at least 6 terms.
***Students could seek permission to take one of these courses as an Independent Reading and Research Course (IRR) if their focus of study would be better served with that option.
B) Core Areas
The field of study available for the On-line M.Ed. program is Curriculum Studies. Students will have some elective choice as they focus on their research area. However, the choice is limited. Courses chosen are generic to curriculum studies and reflect diverse traditions in two areas of Pedagogy & Teaching and Research.
C) Progression Requirements
Core courses in Curriculum Studies are 580 (An Introduction to Curriculum) and 678 (Diverse Traditions: Approaches to Educational Research), with 580 normally completed at the beginning of a program of studies; 678 should not be taken until 580 and at least two other half courses have been completed.
Graduate students will be enrolled in the Directed Research Project Option (DRP), although for those who wish, the thesis option is available. You will be required to complete eight half-courses (or the equivalent) plus the DRP.
Prospective students are not required to secure a Thesis or Directed Research Project (DRP) Supervisor at the time of application; however, those wishing to ensure there are faculty members on staff who research in their area of interest are invited to review the Faculty Research page. At the time of admission, students are assigned an Academic Advisor who will guide them through course and program planning. When students are ready to begin work on their thesis or project, they are welcome to approach their Advisor or another faculty member to act as Thesis Supervisor.
Please Note: It is the responsibility of a student who is intending to write a thesis or DRP to maintain an accurate record of courses taken and a portfolio of original papers as marked by instructors. If the student wishes a faculty member to supervise a thesis or DRP, it is the student's responsibility to submit the portfolio to the instructor for review at the time the request for supervision is made.
D. On-line Hardware and Software Requirements
The main hardware and software requirements are a fully functional computer with a connection
to the Internet and an active email account. No specific hardware minimum standards are set

with a broadcast of a live video and audio signal as well as playback of a previously recorded
video and audio presentation to your computer over your internet connection. The faster your
computer and internet connection are the more "life like" these experiences will
be.
In order to assist you to test to see if you computer is properly set-up to access our on-line
courses and discussion environment click here
to visit our self-directed On-line Test Centre. Be sure to run through both the Browser
