How do I accept my offer of admission on-line?

To accept or decline on-line, go to http://www.uwo.ca/grad/index-pros.html  and click on the link at the top of the page: “Accept or Decline your Offer of Admission.”

This takes you to the login page of MyUWO/Grad studies.

You must respond to your offer of admission on-line, whether it be to accept or decline, so we know whether or not you are coming. In most cases, we have students on waiting lists and the sooner we know the status of the offers we have extended, the sooner we know to offer admission to applicants on waiting lists.

I can't see my offer of admission on-line anymore – what does this mean?

This means that you successfully accepted or declined your offer of admission on-line. Once you do this the offer no longer shows when you click on “Check for Offer.”

I did not get an offer of admission. Can I get feedback about my application?

Yes. Please send an email to the Graduate Education Office (graded@uwo.ca). We will respond as soon as possible; however, it may take some time. Due to the competitive nature of Graduate Education programs, we do unfortunately have to turn away qualified applicants each year. As a result, try to not just meet, but to exceed the minimum requirements as much as possible to make your application as competitive as possible.

Once I accept my offer, is there anything else that I need to do?

You will be contacted by email in June with the name of your academic advisor and his/her contact details. You will need to contact your advisor in order to discuss your plan of study and courses. You will then be provided with a login and password to the Graduate Portal where you enter your course selections on-line. This is known as “Program Planning,” and typically takes place in June for new, incoming students. The Graduate Education Office holds a demonstration night (early to mid-June) that provides an overview of how to do this, and there is an audio/visual tutorial on our web site that walks you through the process step by step.

In addition to the information on the Graduate Education web site (including the FAQ section), you will receive emails periodically throughout the summer with information leading up to the New Student Orientation Night, which takes place the first week of September (typically the first Wednesday after the Labour Day holiday, but this will be confirmed via email).

How much is tuition and when will it be due?

Fees are set each year by Senate, and once they are approved, they can be viewed on the web site for the Office of the Registrar: http://www4.registrar.uwo.ca/FinancialServices/Fees.cfm. Fee statements are typically distributed approximately 3-5 weeks before the start of each term. Part time students automatically receive theirs in the mail and full time students pick theirs up in the Graduate Education Office. You will receive an email from the Graduate Education Office when it is time to do this, and at that time, you can make arrangements to have your statement mailed out if you cannot get to the office during office hours. The tuition due date is on your statement and will be communicated to you by the Graduate Education Office. Typically fees are due during the first week of each term.

Please note that it is each student's responsibility to pay his/her fees regardless of whether or not you receive your statement in time. This includes those who are admitted late or International students who do not receive their statement in the mail on time. Please be proactive and check the web site for the Office of the Registrar (http://www.registrar.uwo.ca). You can check to see how much you owe and find information on the various methods to pay your tuition. Depending on the method you choose, you may not need your statement to pay your fees.

I accepted my offer on-line. Can I take any courses over the summer?

No. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies does not consider you a student until the fall term (your admission date).  Once you begin your studies though, you are continuously enrolled, so you will be able to take courses in subsequent summer terms.

I requested Advanced Standing for previous graduate courses completed. When will I find out if my request was approved?

Your request for Advanced Standing is considered by the Graduate Education Admissions Committee at the time of application. The maximum allowed is the equivalent of two half or one full course. Typically, the Graduate Education Office notifies you via email in the spring, before you select your courses through Program Planning. Please note that in order to be eligible for consideration, a course must be equal to a UWO graduate course and related to your program of study. Additional Qualification courses are not considered. Please provide the Graduate Education Office with detailed course descriptions for any courses taken at a university outside of Canada . Please note that you can only request Advanced Standing at the time of application.

When is the fall timetable posted?

You can see which courses are being offered on the 3 Year Plan of Study, and timetables are posted one term at a time. The fall timetable is typically completed and posted online some time in July. Inevitably there are last minute changes, so be sure to check the timetable right up until the first class.

Where can I access a list of text books I will need?

Text book information and detailed course outlines are typically provided in your first class. Periodically, professors will be in touch a week or two before the beginning of the term (via email or mail) to communicate readings or other information that you will need for your first class.
